How to Donate to the Be A Part Challenge
Over the past couple of weeks we have been talking about the Be A Part Challenge and how we can all be a part of what God has planned for us in our new home. The most common method of contributing to the challenge will be by simply writing a check and placing the check in the offering basket on Sunday morning.
You can include your contribution to the Be A Part Challenge in your normal offering check. However, we ask that you indicate in the memo field of the check the amount that is for the Be A Part Challenge; as seen in the example to the left. This will help us to make sure the Be A Part challenge funds and the General Fund offering are properly allocated.
Additionally, there have been several questions about the different ways people can contribute to God’s dream for lifechurch; specifically regarding non-cash donations. A non-cash donation is anything other than writing a check or giving cash. The most common types of non-cash donations that people generally think about would be items such as clothes, jewelry, furniture, artwork, cars, and even, on rare occasion’s, real-estate. The less thought about yet very beneficial type of non-cash donations are stocks and/or mutual funds.
When making donations of items such as clothes, jewelry, furniture, artwork, and cars - in lieu of actually giving the physical item, it is much easier and more efficient to sell the item yourself and write a check to the church. There are several ways to do this, for example eBay, garage sales, second hand clothing or furniture stores, etc.
However, in the case of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and real-estate there may be tax implications and benefits that would require special handling; especially if these items have appreciated in value. To donate such items, we ask that you contact us first so that we can help coordinate the transaction in a way that brings you the most benefit.
